Why your wake time is not just "bedtime + 8 hours"

Sleep is cyclic, not linear. If you wake mid-cycle, you feel rough even after a long night. The trick is to wake at a cycle boundary, when your brain is already near awake.

Restcalc adds about 15 minutes to fall asleep, then stacks 90-minute cycles from there to map out every good wake moment.

The boundary math

Example: in bed at 23:00, asleep around 23:15. One cycle later is 1:00, two is 2:30, and so on. Five cycles (7.5 hours) lands at 6:45; six cycles (9 hours) at 8:15. So 6:45 or 8:15 usually beat an arbitrary 7:30.

Sleep inertia is the real enemy

Waking from deep sleep causes sleep inertia — that foggy, reach-for-the-snooze feeling that can last minutes to hours. Hitting a light-sleep boundary avoids most of it. This is why two people with the same "8 hours" can feel completely different.

The snooze trap

Hitting snooze drops you into a new cycle you can't finish. Those extra 9 minutes often land you deeper, so the final ring feels worse, not better. Set the alarm at a real boundary instead of relying on snooze.
